Sunbear Solar

The project is proposed on Ute Mountain Ute Tribe sovereign lands south of Towaoc at the Highway 491 and Highway 160 intersection. Estimated at nearly 4500 acres, 8 miles long x 1 mile wide, 775 square miles, 975 MW, 2 million solar panels, it could be the largest ever built in the US.

The website timeline shows the progress paused at the Environmental Assessment review. The county officials have no say in the matter. Would prevailing winds during construction bring added dust to Cortez? Where do construction employees live?
